HISTORY OF AMATEUR HOCKEY IN MANITOBA
Some time during the winter of 1885-86 the first hockey sticks arrived in Winnipeg. Shortly after, the first organized hockey games in Manitoba took place on the Red River.
The first hockey league in the province was organized in Winnipeg in 1890. It featured three teams. Each year thereafter, amateur hockey in Manitoba has grown, producing great players and programs to help develop skills. Today, thousands are enjoying the game at hockey rinks across the province.
The province has been home to many Allan Cup, Hardy Cup and Memorial Cup championship teams, among other amateur titles. We'll try and bring you all the facts about Manitoba's great amateur moments.
